What is HLPN?

HLPN is published by Tom Pierce and geared to provide quick updates on the land conservation happenings in the Hawai`i Islands to land trust volunteers and employees, land conservation consultants, and others involved in or interested in land conservation in Hawai`i. A short monthly email will keep you abreast of upcoming events.

How did HLPN get started?

From the editor, Tom Pierce: The idea for HLPN came about in Nashville, Tennessee, at the annual national Land Trust Alliance conference, when some of the Hawai`i land conservation community met for dinner (yes, we had to travel across much of the continent before some of us finally had a chance to meet). It was a lively conversation with some around the table sharing insights and other helpful information with their counterparts on other islands.

We all agreed we needed better communication between the islands' various programs. As a land conservation attorney and former land trust board member, I thought I could help facilitate the conversation by providing web content and email updates to remind us all that we quite often are working on similar issues and that there are some great, well-informed people on the different islands who are available to offer ideas and support.
