Scott Fisher

Maui Coastal Land Trust project manager Scott Fisher has a job description that's as diverse as the land he oversees -- the Waihe'e Coastal Dunes and Wetlands Refuge. On any given day, Scott may oversee educational or volunteer efforts, conduct ecological, habitat or cultural restoration (the site includes a heiau, several grave sites, and an inland fishpond), or give tours. 

Scott, fluent in his Hawaiian ancestors' language, admits caring for the land is physically demanding but says the payoff is big: "It's exciting to see the transformation -- in a few short years we've gotten aggressive species and garbage under control and returned parts of the property to a healthy ecosystem."  To join Scott for a weekly Friday volunteer session or for a monthly tour, call MCLT at (808) 244-5263
